Engineering Awards 2024
Well done to everyone for their entries to the 'If you were an engineer, what would you do?' competition and an extra well done to our winners from this year Roland, Sachin, Sol, India, George and Lily.
Our winners' entries were all fantastic ideas that the judges all deemed as worthy winners, ranging from silent fireworks, to a finger, designed for blind people, that you could wear and when you pointed to something it would tell you what it was. We had a fantastic afternoon at Southampton University, where their entries were displayed in a gallery and then an awards ceremony was held where each entry was shown and discussed. All entries were designs showing empathy, love and kindness to either humans or our planet.
A special mention of our Judges Choice award winner Lily! Well done, Lily!
Another huge special mention needs to go to Emily, who won the OVERALL winner for the ENTIRE South Coast division with an idea of a seed planting machine that could support farmers in planting seeds that would grow well in their soil. Her prototype was unveiled during the awards ceremony and we witnessed first hand how the machine would work in real life.
University students from Southampton University spent months creating a prototype of Emily's design, spending time creating and improving the programmes, mechanics and logistics that were needed to create a fully functioning automatic seed planting system. Visiting St. James' during the process to keep Emily up to date.
We are so proud of Emily and all our engineering specialists. St. James' certainly swept the floor at the awards evening. Who knew we had so many aspiring engineers in our midst. Watch out world, St. James' is coming!
