Week beginning 4th March 2024
This week has been another brilliant one for Year 2. We have delved deeper into our new project, which the children are becoming experts on. The children have written some excellent diary entries and created wonderful fact files on The Great Fire of London.
Nile class have their class worship next Thursday. They will each be an animal in the performance so you may want to tie this in with their World Book Day costume. However, if you have a costume for World Book Day already planned that is different to their worship animal - do not panic! We will create masks for these.
Worship theme of the week:
Next week, our worship theme will be New life.
Please note that our curriculum overview for this term is at the bottom of the page.
In maths, we will continue to look at mass units of meausurement and how to choose kg or g. The children will be using balance scales.
Next week, the children will continue to learn about diary texts and editing their own writing.
Next week the children will continue with level 6 phonics. They will learning how to add the 'ing' and 'ed' suffix to words.
Whole Class Read
We will be continue 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London' and answer questions using the Key Stage 1 reading viper skills to answer comprehension questions.
Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.
We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.
P.E. and Library
Please wear P.E. kits on a Thursday. Thursday will also be our Library day.
Your child will be bringing home a home learning choice sheet next week which we ask that you complete over the duration of the half term. We will also be sending home a list of the common exception words that Year 2 children are expected to learn. We will not be testing the children on these spellings but we actively encourage children to use these words in their writing throughout the year.
This week the mymaths learning tasks are on multiplication, which the children have learnt recently.
Have a brilliant weekend!
