Year 2

Week Beginning 3rd March 2025

This week has flown by and we are already in the mix of learning about our new project 'The Great Fire of London'. The children have come back to school well and ready to learn.

Maths

Next term, the children will begin the term looking at shape, space and measure. They will be learning about measuring in centimetres and metres.

English

The children will be immersed in the features of writing a diary. The children will initially look at an extract of Samuel Pepys diary and will then write their own version of this.

Phonics

Next week, the children will be learning to add -ing to CVC and CCVC words. Below is the parent information sheet.

Whole Class Reading

This term, the children will be move onto books based around the Great Fire of London. They will read 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London'.

Key Information:

Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.

We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.
