This week, our EYFS children embarked on an exciting sensory adventure, exploring an Ice Mountain! Through hands-on exploration, they discovered the wonders of ice—feeling its texture and observing melting changes.
To begin our icy adventure, we worked together to create our very own Ice Mountain using large bags of ice. As we stacked and arranged the ice bags, they explored its texture—feeling how cold and slippery it was, noticing the different shapes and sizes, and discussing how heavy the bags felt.
Once the mountain was built, we posed an important question to our young explorers: What do you think will happen if we leave it overnight? Excited predictions filled the air, with responses ranging from "It will melt into water!" to "Maybe it will stay frozen if it's really cold outside!"
The next morning, the children eagerly returned to observe the results. The ice had melted, forming puddles. This sparked conversations about temperature and how ice turns into water when it warms up. Our EYFS learners developed their scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and observational abilities.
