Celebrating Thanksgiving
On Thursday 28th November (the 4th Thursday in November) we celebrated Thanksgiving to tie in with our project of 'Celebrating Festivals'.
We did lots of activities throughout the day! We got to taste dishes from a traditional Thanksgiving meal like: turkey, mashed potato, cranberry sauce and much more! All the children really enjoyed getting to taste the traditional dishes and give them a rating!
We also made thankful turkeys in which we wrote down different things we are grateful for within our lives, some included siblings, teachers, parents and some included football and food!
We learnt about the story of Thanksgiving and how it became a tradition in North America, in understanding the journey the Pilgrims made from England to America. We spoke about how the Native Americans showed the Pilgrims how to grow crops, hunt and fish. To celebrate their help they enjoyed a three day feast!
In the afternoon we were lucky enough to speak to an American who shared their traditions within their family and more of the history of Thanksgiving. The children really enjoyed being able to speak to someone who was in America and actually celebrating Thanksgiving with a big celebration!
To finish off our busy day of celebrating, we made some child friendly eggnog, which was absolutely delicious and tasted a lot like melted ice cream!
