Year 6 Traction Cities

Read on to find out how Year 6 designed, created and evaluated their own traction cities.

Last term, Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the 'Cities of the Future' project.  There was so much awesome writing produced and it was clear that the children enjoyed immersing themselves into fantasy genre and the post-apocalyptic world of Mortal Engines.

This was exemplified through our Design and Technology unit, where the children were tasked to follow the design process to create their very own traction cities.  This coincided nicely with other learning we had done throughout the project and really bought the project to life.

To begin with, the children had to design their own cities based on a set specification, which included the fact that it needed to move using wheels and axles.  Following on from this, the children then made their cities using a variety of different materials, ensuring they stuck to their design throughout.  Evaluating their designs formed the final part of the process, particularly thinking about how well they had followed their initial plans and adhered to the specification.

It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase so many creative talents and follow a process throughout.  Please enjoy looking in the album to see the fabulous results!
